Play it better.

How to squeeze frames, aim straighter, and know exactly what is coming. Gaming tips, the release calendar, and the awards, all in one room.

Tips and tricks

Six changes that do more for your games than a hardware upgrade. All free, all reversible, all worth doing before your next session.

Latency

Cap frames just under your refresh

With a compatible variable-refresh display, an in-game frame cap below its maximum refresh rate can help keep frames in the VRR range. The appropriate cap and V-Sync combination depend on the game and display; compare latency and tearing in your own setup.

Settings

Drop shadows and volumetrics first

Compare shadows and volumetric settings in the same repeatable scene. Their performance cost varies by engine and GPU; change one setting at a time and measure frame time rather than expecting a fixed percentage gain.

Aim

Choose a consistent mouse sensitivity

Choose a comfortable DPI and in-game sensitivity for your available mouse space. No single DPI is the universal professional standard; use repeatable movement and avoid changing several controls at once.

Competitive

Turn on Reflex or Anti-Lag

Supported games and hardware can use NVIDIA Reflex or AMD Anti-Lag to reduce latency. Results depend on GPU load and the game’s implementation; use the documented option for your hardware and compare it in the same scene.

Audio

Footsteps win more than frames

A flat headset plus a footstep-focused EQ tells you where the enemy is before you see them. Kill in-game music, raise the effects channel, and stop letting a subwoofer hide the reload two rooms over.

Comfort

Kill motion blur and film grain

Motion blur, film grain and field of view are presentation and comfort choices. Try them individually; higher field of view may affect performance and there is no single value that suits every screen or player.
